Microvision receives $8.5 million purchase order for pico projector engine

Microvision, a Redmond-based developer of ultra-miniature projection display products, has recently received an $8.5 million purchase order for its new ultra-miniature PicoP® laser projection display engine. The PicoP engine will be embedded inside a high-end mobile media player, due to be released later this year.

In initial samples of the new display engine, a proprietary ASIC chipset has been used which is half the original size and weight and uses one-third less power, while still maintaining its vivid color. Another added benefit of this projector is that it is always in focus without the need for focusing dials or optics.
